Directions for Care of Space Maintainers
The scans (or chairside fabrication) that were taken of your child will be used to make the Space Maintainers needed to maintain the space created by the premature loss of a tooth/ teeth. The space MUST be maintained to allow the eruption of the permanent tooth in the future.
- We schedule appointments for the cementation of the appliance after 2-3 weeks if a scan was taken.
- It is imperative that you keep this appointment as the space may be lost very quickly form the time of impression to the placement of the appliance.
- Avoid chewing gum, gummy and hard candy, and ice. This can loosen or damage the space maintainer.
