Meet Katie Lapps Wert, DMD

Katie was born and raised in Hatfield, PA and graduated from North Penn High School in 1998. She graduated from the University of Scranton in 2002, magna cum laude, as a biology major with a minor in business administration. Katie then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she was awarded the Health Profession Scholarship by the United States Navy. She graduated from Penn in 2006, summa cum laude, and was selected for induction into the prestigious national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
After Penn, Katie served as a general dentist for five years in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Katie completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency and was deployed to Al Asad, Iraq for seven months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Katie was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal for her outstanding service and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander.
In 2011, Katie entered a residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, specializing in pediatric dentistry. During her training at CHOP, Katie gained invaluable experience in emergency treatment, trauma, operating room dentistry, sedation dentistry, and treatment for special needs children. She served as chief resident and graduated from the program in June of 2013.
Katie is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She has a passion for preventive dentistry and early dental education for parents. Katie presented her research regarding recommendations for nursing mothers at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry meeting in May 2013. Her research article “Breastfeeding, Co-Sleeping, and Dental Health Advice” was published in the American Journal of Maternal Child Nursing in the spring of 2015.
Katie lives in Hatfield with her husband, Eric Wert.
