Directions for Care After a Fluoride Varnish Treatment

5% sodium fluoride varnish was applied to your child’s teeth today. This treatment safely delivers fluoride and a protective coating to the tooth surfaces. To obtain the maximum benefit, we ask that you follow these recommendations after leaving the office:

• Do not brush or floss for at least 4-6 hours.
• Eat a soft diet for 4 hours.
• Avoid hot drinks and sticky foods for 4 hours.

Your child will feel the varnish on their teeth. They will be able to brush off any excess when they resume normal brushing and flossing.
